Looking for a new scope….

How come you don’t like Arken? Minus them being Chinese manufacture of course, but I like them for a getting started scope or a decent scope to get on a rifle to start shooting. I’m genuinely interested because there’s only good reviews about Arken which is annoying as hell. The only bad thing I’ve heard and personally seen was with the EP5 at above 20x the CA around the edges is a noticeable purple. If you aren’t looking for it’s not noticeable but when you have other high end scopes to compare it too it’s not good at all.

So much of what’s important to me in an optic has nothing to do with image quality. Long term durability, repeatable adjustments and an overall mechanical system that’s well thought out and tested prior to it leaving the factory is a top priority. Chinese made optics completely ignore this facet of manufacturing. I also want to send the Chinese as little money as possible.How come you don’t like Arken? I've never owned one. I've played with a couple and that's it. Both were ep525's. The controls on both were very different. One took an enormous amount of force to adjust parallax. The other, was simply stiff. Glass quality? Meh. Not horrible, but certainly not good.How come you don’t like Arken? The tell-tell for me on optical clarity is what shooters are struggling to see. "I can't see the target" is a common theme. Right along the lines as the Athlon users.
When conditions are ideal, targets are big and white with a nice backdrop, the refinement of the glass and coatings don't impact your ability much. Take away the perfect conditions. Or the big pretty target in the nicely framed backdrop, and the differences are abundantly apparent.
I don't know about the durability or the tracking. Never owned em, haven't paid enough attn to care either. I do think most people don't know sht about tracking that claim to. Seen it on the range plenty of times.
Spend a few hundred more and get a much better scope.
The EP5 I had was on par with a vortex viper in glass clarity, maybe a touch better in the right environment. It was very heavy and the parallax was stiff and didn't do much for it. The only reason I didn't keep mine is I'm a moa guy and it was mils. It tracked back and forth good for my test, even bouncing off the top and bottom ends, granted my tracking was more of a return to zero after spinning the turrets. The targets I shoot measure moa not mil and any difference at 100 yards can be called rounding error. I'm not a competitive shooter, just a weekend warrior. As an intro scope, I'd recommend one. It'll get your feet wet without diving in the deep end, especially if you aren't sure you are going to stick with it. The reticle and turrets will teach you.
