Looking to buy a pretty big quanitity of food, need some opinions

The mylar bags and O2 absorbers aren't that bad. Go to different restaurants and get the food grade 5 gallon buckets for free and wash them out. you will do better financially that route and I think it would last longer also. check out these prices for the bags and O2. http://www.shopsimplerliving.com/

PM'd you a while ago about the food if your interested. We need to get another beer

all of those containers have great uses. I can tell you that having a couple buckets of food, a drum or two of water, and a way to cook will do wonders for your sense of security. the 5 gallon jerry cans are great! fill radiators, drink, cook, fill up toilet tanks, etc etc etc.

think about getting the "f out of dodge" real quick. throw in 6-10 cases of 1L bottles. 2-3 boxes of MRE's/canned food and roll.
now think about coming home and the water is turned off at your house, or there was a tornado/hurricane blocking food shipments. 5 gal jerry cans fill up toilet tanks, big pots, and help clean pretty easily.

those big tanks refill the other two sizes pretty well. also if you are paranoid/bored/rich you can hook up a simple pump to a 50-100 gal holding tank in the attic. fill it up once a day when you are out of water. it will provide low pressure gravity fed water to the pipes in the house. enough to fill toilet tanks and wash hands. showers might suck though.

but either way if running water was ever cut off to large parts of this country people a screwed. those larger tanks are super cheap when you weigh out your ability to survive that much longer.

Buy one, get one free at Publix + coupons + fast short term and medium term food stroage accumulation

Wait for sales + free shipping at the above websites to save significant money on bulk orders. www.survivalblog.com usually makes these announcements for their advertisers.

We store three categories of food:
1. Short term - canned goods, everyday items, frozen meats/veggies, etc. Think of this as an extended pantry with items that expire in 4-24 months. Once you take the initial hit to your budget, nothing goes to waste as you aggressively monitor expiration dates and replace items you eat.
2. Medium term storage, 2-4 year expiration dates - canned goods, rice, beans, soup mixes, etc.
3. Long term storage - up to 5-25 year exiration dates - freeze dried foods, grains, beans, etc.

We make large orders and have been stocking up. We're very willing to look at splitting orders on high cost specialty items like freeze dried roast beef or splitting a large costco order up.

all the medium term stuff you listed lasts well over 4 years.

also a great cost effective solution is the LDS church stores. ("Canneries")

Ill put in a call to a guy I know (havent spoke to him in 6mos) who I bought my dehydrinated food. The stuff he sells has almost a 20yr shelf life compared to MRE's etc and they are all vacuum sealed and just add saliva or water and instant goodness
