I'd listen to mountainmoped, part it out and buy something in better shape.
i think everyone here is missing the point that i am looking for a project. it is worth the money to me even if it does nothing more than keep me occupied for a few months. When you see a bear in a cave, sometimes you do not want to wake him up
cause you will get eaten alive.
looking for a motorcycle, and have a question.
friend of mine has a 1978 honda cb750. it needs alot of work, new gas tank, some wiring re-done, paint, re-upholster the seat, and as far as i can tell the motor needs to be rebuilt.
fortunately, i am a tinkerer. i like having some sort of project to work on, but im trying to figure out if this bike is a lost cause. it has new tires and brakes, and all of the light work. i have seen him ride it, and when he rode it by the house it ran fine. it has been parked a year and from what i can tell the motor is locked down.
he told me to bring him $100 and i can leave with it. given the work that needs to be done, is this thing worth it financially? keep in mind i like to tinker on things and i like having a project, though i wonder if this is a little too much of a project....
he drove it to my house the day before he parked it. he parked it because the spout broke off the bottom of the gas tank.I ride a Harley, but love the vintage Hondas too. I think you stole the bike, especially since you love to work on things. I'm the same way. You will probably find that unless the previous owner blew it up, you will be able to get it running again.

I'll take some of that action.im gonna tinker with it tomorrow. just about willing to put money on it that i get it running with a can of pb blaster.
You asked if it was worth it and if it was too much of a project. I think guys are just responding to your post and being honest and you're not liking what you're reading. Don't post if you don't want the truth from this bunch. Tinker away. Get a book about CV carbs and motorcycle valve trains (yours should be a shim over bucket on the CB) and you'll be on your way. Or you can just tear it apart and god knows what happens then!
