I’ve only been getting into optics for a year, at best, probably less, and could use insight. I know I’ll get flack for the optics I put on it, but, for record’s sake, I wanted to feel out what I liked best and what was in my budget.

While shooting my PS90 SBR today, the magnifier (Sig Juliet) I had mounted (and tightened) nearly fell off, so I removed it. Then, my red dot (Holosun) came loose and I had to hand-tighten it to keep it on. This is a rifle I use for not only home defense, but also range, and shoot suppressed (dedicated suppressor). It’s a “forever” rifle for me and not one I ever intend to sell.

My question is this: should I bite the bullet (no pun intended) and get a nice Eotech or other higher end set? Or is there a decent solution to prevent these from loosening in the future whilst shooting? If it helps with insight, I do sometimes “rapid fire” with it since the reset is so short.

Thanks, all!

You shouldn't have to use any threads locker on an optic mount.

I would double check that everything was installed correctly. You can either use a gun Smith or honestly, jist read the instructions manual and torque to spec with a Husky brand torque wrench/driver if you don't have tools like it.

As to your shooting speed, if those optics are installed to spec, you can shoot as fast as you like. It shouldn't have any effect. Is the rail you're using one that was installed on the PS90 when you bought it? (i.e. is it definitely a good M1913 pic rail or a knockoff?)

As to the "retail therapy" new optic (because you're itching for a reason to spend some money, aren't you?) , what specifically are they going to be used for? What are your use cases?

I usually use blue Loctite or Vibratite VC-3 on my optics mounts, after throughly decreasing all male and female threads. If the factory screws have threadlocker on them right out of the package, I just use that. Torque to spec.

I’m the gunsmith at TruPrep in Marietta. Bring it all in and I can knock it out for you most rikki-tik.

I’m out of the shop hunting in MT until Nov 1.

It is as far as I can tell. It seems like a good rail, but I’m thinking I didn’t torque the thing well.

Haha, no retail therapy here. Just want to “buy once, cry once.” For this specific rifle, home defense and range. I take it to the range every time I go and easily see myself putting thousands of rounds through it.

Thanks, Shep! I may take you up on this.

Happy hunting!
