Not in both separately, but in a combination of the two, yes. It's a hell of a combat weapon, can be very accurate in rifle matches and can very effectively hunt 99% of the big game in the world.

Go shoot a Brown Bear with a 5.56 and let us know how that works out for you.

The AK47 is cheap to make and is low recoil. That makes it better to deploy with poorly trained personnel. That does not make it a good rifle. If you were in a battle for your life and the enemy was behind cover at 50 yards or laying down fire on you from 500 yards, would you honestly prefer to have an AK in your hands rather than a M14? The only situation the AK has the advantage would be CQB. Even then, it's not much of an advantage.

I'll take a PKM....an AK variant.

Those ARE part of it's advantages....simple, cheap, effective and easy to use. What's not to like?

Sure the M14 does have the huge advantage of the 20 rd detachable magazine, so I would take it over the M1.

Oh, so now you are changing the parameters by changing the cartridge in use. Wasn't your argument for the AR about how long it's been in service? Also the AR15/16/M4 and the AR10 are not the same rifle.

I actually like the AR10 a lot. I just prefer the design of the M14.

I don't know that much about the FAL. Never owned one, but my impression is that the basic capability of the FAL and the M14 are the same. The M14 is just more accurate.

Uh..You do know the AR is Manufactured in the same Caliber as the M14 right?

The AR in 308 would be shorter/lighter/more accurate and more magazine capacity than the M14 on your "Brown Bear" hunt...

The M14 was a disaster as a battle rifle. Should have never been made select fire.


The FAL is a far superior platform. I say that as someone whose favorite rifle is the M14.

The AR15 and AK47 are not battle rifles.
