The AR in 308 would be shorter/lighter/more accurate and more magazine capacity than the M14 on your "Brown Bear" hunt...

The AR10 was never issued as a primary weapon system due to having the same shortcomings as the M14.

The AK was (and is) so prevalent around the world because of influence peddling by the former Soviet Union and Soviet Bloc countries. They practically gave them away by the thousands in an effort to spread it's influence to every under developed nation on the planet. It paid off for them enormously. Now, I will agree it is a better weapon than the M14 but then that is not in itself saying that much.

The M14 was a disaster as a battle rifle. Should have never been made select fire.


The FAL is a far superior platform. I say that as someone whose favorite rifle is the M14.

The AR15 and AK47 are not battle rifles.

I absolutely agree that it should never have been issues in select fire, but I'm not a big fan of auto fire in any handheld weapon.

I keep hearing that the FAL is a better weapon, but no one has said why.

Because it weighed enough to be controlled during rapid fire.

Shortcomings based on the new standard that was developed by the US Military at the time. They wanted a lighter weapon with less recoil.

My statement about it never being issued was aimed at Chatties argument that the reason the AR is a superior weapon is because it has been in service so long. When I pointed out the shortcomings of the 5.56 round he tried to claim he was not referring to that AR. LOL!
