Just finished cleaning up this old Mauser. It's a Model 1894 Swedish Mauser carbine made in 1901 and chambered in 6.5x55. Unfortunately it was sporterized at some point, I would love to have one of these that's original but I figure it's just a part of the history of this old rifle. I thought that the barrel.on this rifle was counter bored but it turns out that when these got brought into the country a small barrel extension was added to bring the barrel up to the then legal length of 18 inches, which is actually the only reason I know it was a carbine and not just cut down.. I replaced the butt pad with a nos pad that was identical to the one that was on it. It was a grind to fit pad so I rough shaped it with a flap disk and then finished it by hand. I also filled in three screw holes that I'm assuming where for a sight of some sort in the past. I also picked up a set of old weaver rings and an old 4 power weaver scope for it.

I'm considering taking it out to hunt this year once it's sighted in, the seller also threw in a 20 round box of ammo so that should get me started. I'm considering getting a set of reloading dies for it as well if I like the 6.5x55 round.

That looks good.
You gotta get a deer with it.
I would definitely like to, I feel like it would be a bit of a homage to whoever originally converted it. I will say they definitely did a great job on the stock bedding. I would love to know when it was sporterized.

I love the way 6.5 55 shoots. We put a couple hundred rounds through a friend of mines Husqvarna a couple weekends ago. Shot an 8mm Mauser as well. Night and day on the recoil. Just a fun gun to shoot. The kids loved it too. The 8mm not so much lol.
