M1917 Eddystone.....salvageable?

I'm with the "clean it and shoot it" crowd on this.
If the bore was oiled / greased / cosmoline treated before it was stored, it should be in much better shape than the exterior, which gets handled, exposed to humid air, the salty sweat of human hands, etc.

A few thousandths of an inch worth of surface damage from corrosion shouldn't affect the strength of the barrel. Military rifles in particular are known to have heavier, thicker barrels than they needed.

Another advantage of having an old milsurp is that if the finish is ruined anyway and you want to make it look less crappy, but don't want to spend the money to have it professionaly refinished, you can spray paint it black or dark gray. Give it that phosphate coat look. In your garage with a couple of rattle cans.
