Anyone near Roswell that sharpens machetes or know where I can go to get one sharpened. The new one I just got only has a rough ground edge from the factory and I can barely put a good edge on a pocket knife.

I second the belt sander idea if you know anybody who has one. Could you give 5 bucks to your local auto workshop to do this for you on their belt sander?

It takes one minute. Easy.
But if you hack at suff on the ground, the last 3" of the blade will get dull really quick. You should expect frequent touch- ups. It might be worth buying a sander, or clamp the machete in a vise and use a rotary tool with an abrasive stone bit in it.

I've had much better luck using an inexpensive carbide sharpener.... you know, the one that has two small pieces of metal shaped in a "V" embedded into the handle?
It puts a very sharp, consistent edge that is a good balance between sharp & durable for rough tasks like chopping.
I highly recommend them
Walmart, Home Depot, etc. carries them.... often priced around $5-10.
