Magnet fishers, what's your setup?

I ordered a 1200 lb. kit from Brute Force and can’t wait to get started. I’ll share pictures of anything cool I find.

Are you planning to be standing in a boat trying to hoist up/out something that weighs more than a half-ton (1200 lbs) and won’t that capsize an average 20-ft boat ?

It’s just if your magnet lands square on a submerged vehicle’s steel roof, eek

I have no idea what I’m going to catch, but the beginner is rated at 350 lbs, so I figured I’d try the intermediate. They have some rated at 4500 lbs. for a couple 100 dollars… 😎

My next door neighbor (well, a mile away) is a big boat fisherman and yesterday told me he just last week had to cut his anchor rope due to it capsizing-sinking his boat in the Gulf of Mexico last week, said anchor snagged something..

..and that’s what got me thinking of your 1200-lb pull magnet

I completely agree and do not plan on using it in a boat. Just around the bridges and such around Westpoint lake. I do plan on having a come along with me if I snag a VW or something 😁

Several cars have been found, a few disappearances have been solved and even a few homicide victims have been found. I hope I never find anything like that, but there’s a lot of neat stuff that either washes away in floods or get thrown out by people…

And it’s going to be fun spending time outdoors with my sons.

Out of the blue, by niece asked me to go magnet fishing with her (guess her mom or my brother isn't interested) and I've not been.

I see "kits" on Amazon but they have mixed reviews. Are the rare earth magnets okay for this or should I use something less prone to cracking?

Thanks for any insights/experience you care to share.

The videos I saw showed guys using what looked like basic magnets from Harbor Freight tied to light to medium rope.

Gotta be some hot gats in the creeks around Macon.

When I first looked into magnet fishing the first spot that came to mind was the Ocmulgee right below the I16/I75 split. Gotta be decades worth of crime guns in that area.
