Several things NOT to do during a defensive shooting in that article. The pharmacist was an idiot, plain and simple.

Just about every state will see self defense as just that, but once the threat is gone, it's no longer defense. He was good up to a point, then stupid kicked into overdrive.

He hung himself by shooting the skull POS after he was on the ground and by getting the 2nd gun out .

He should've just let the little bastard bleed out on the floor. If he'd died with just the one bullet wound, it would've been over and done. He would've almost certainly died anyway - why go back and shoot him 5 more times? Too bad the "good guy" had to be an idiot and "overkill" the rat bastard that was robbing his store. The thief got his comeuppance, but the pharmacist should've left him on the floor when he realized he'd shot him in the head.

Note to self: if you ever shoot somebody in the head in self-defense, just let them die. Don't bother shooting them over and again to make sure they're really dead....

He shouldn't have left the store and followed after the perp. That threat was gone. The second round of shots was uncalled for too. I think he got pumped on adrenaline and stopped thinking.

He basically put his own noose around his neck. He had a power trip and let the adrenaline take over. Punishment well deserved. One shot dead? different story. Execution style? Wrong....

He was on an adrenaline high and definately was not thinking clearly. He would have been free and clear if he had not come back with the other gun. Once the threat was gone, the self defense was over.
