Mandatory tipping in California???

"In all cases, the law also creates a mandatory requirement of attending a month-long ‘tipping school’ where the basics of tipping will be taught. Passing the course is required under this new law and anyone who does not pass the course on the third try will have their driver licenses marked with a ‘Bad Tipper’ logo permanently."




HAA!!! Very good guys, very good. I'd wear "Bad Tipper" like a badge of honor. And follow it with a "Poor Service Rewards" sticker

I tip a little over 100% at the Waffle King. They give all LEO, EMS, Hospital staff etc in uniform a 50% discount. So my meal that usually runs about 8.50 ends up at 4.25 and I leave a 5 dollar tip. Sometimes a little more..just depends. I never have understood why the tip is based on the amount paid for the meal. It should be based on things like glass refilled without asking, not having to get up and go find the server, napkins, hot coffee and smiles. I mean...If I go in a diner to meet with someone, and only drink coffee but tie up a table for an hour or so...what? I'm going to tip 15% of the price of a cup of coffee with bottomless refills? no way that's fair. One thing to watch for I've learned is when you have a large party and they include the tip in the bill. I wonder how many people don't notice and figure a tip on top of an already tipped bill? I am pretty sure I've double tipped before...probably a lot when alcohol is involved lol

Parties of 7 or more typically have gratuity added at 18%. Anything additional is your fault you didnt read lol. I always check my reciepts. Ive yet to 2x tip

Personally, I get "good" service so rarely it's rewarded heavily. And I have no problem leaving nothing to a couple dollars depending on how the meal goes. Everyone starts at 40% for family restaurants. Most don't end up with that.

I have tipped $50 on a $40 bill at Olive Garden. That waitress was really keeping tabs on her tables and not getting a darn bit of help. But when our order is wrong and my wife sits with an empty glass for half the meal, well, sorry- unless the waiter/waitress is really working between tables, you aren't getting a big tip. Most of the time I see a bus boy more than I see the person that took our order. In that case, I see no reason to leave a "acceptably adequate" tip.

The tip killer for me is when a server runs by the table several times and purposefully avoids eye contact.

Tipping...I use to wait tables part-time in the evenings. Had a lot of fun, met a few richards.

Funny story. I took my Mom to Cheddars (I know, I know, but she liked the potato soup) for lunch one day and the server displayed a poor attitude. I'm being nice here. About 30 minutes into lunch I asked her nicely for a little more tea for my mom and the server "Harrumphed" and stormed off towards to the kitchen. Ten minutes later I get up and tell the manager I do not want that server back at my table. He apologizes and sends over a sweet cheerful server who handles everything the way it should be handled. I felt bad because Mom was a little embarrassed by the "scene". To make up for it, when I received the check I said to her, "Watch this." The bill was about $19 so I placed a $50 bill in the check holder and handed it back to the server. She said cheerily, "I'll be right back with your change." to which I replied, "Don't bother, you may keep it and thank you for everything." That girl merrily skipped back to the kitchen. I looked at Mom and said, "Listen." About 20 seconds after going through the doors, we heard a shrill screaming voice shout, "MUTHA ****ER!" LOL! It was the first server's voice. Mom was crying from laughing so hard.

i dont tip on account of poor service, but that does sound like 50 bucks well spent and it sounds like the replacement server earned it

but what if you just got bait and switched? like good cop bad cop lol
