So I decided to get me a rifle in .308. I went to my LGS and they had a Marlin XL7 with camo stock an blued barrel so I decided to put it on layaway along with a Bushnell Trophy XLT 3-9x50 scope. So does anyone use this as their go to hunting rifle, if so how do you like it? Thinkin of tryin Winchester Power Point 150 gr ammo to start but may swap it up if I find something a little better. Im fond of a bonded bullet so who knows. Any opinions or info will be appreciated.

I've got about $500 in a XL7 in 30 06 with a Bushnell 3200. Using Remington Core Lokt 150 grain it is accurate. I'm no bench rest shooter, but can put a group inside a quarter at 100 yards with it. In the Dec 2012 issue of Field and Stream, the XL7 came out on top of the other rifles tested as being the most accurate.

That said, I missed a deer last December at about 30 yards with the gun. Arrrg. Not the gun's fault.

Very underrated rifle IMHO, I had two in .270, now I only have one and regret it .
I traded one to a guy here for a Glock, and now you couldn't pry it out of his hands.
The rifle is a sweet shooter and very accurate.
Here's mine along with a nice buck that it dropped.
However, I'm pretty sure the .308 is an XS7, the L or S designates the action .308= short action, .270= long action.

I've owned several of the X series. They're definite over achievers. The S & L do define the action length, so yours is an XS 7.

The reason I don't have one now, someone else shot it and had to have it. It's one of his favorites too.

I have the XL7c in 30-06 topped with a camo Nikon scope. Wouldn't trade it for anything. I love it. Definitely my "go to" hunting rifle
