Maybe a dumb question

Probably because it was overhyped and guys didnt realize what they were getting. I can see the bubbas now....

"You mean I have to adjust the gas to run subs??? Isnt a .300BO the same as a .300 win mag, I mean they both have .300 in front of the name? I thought I was getting .308 win performance in an AR15 platform? What, it takes a year to get my can?? I cant get ammo for a penny a round?? I shot a deer in the ass with FMJs and it didnt drop it!!! This round is stupid...Im going to dump it for the next hot thing."

Boom market flooded with ARs, and you know the saying, the few who scream (complain) the loudest are heard the most.
shoot, i reckon? IDK? Could be?

I have a buddy who wanted something “exotic” in an AR15 and I recommended the .300BO bc it’s different, but also popular. He looked at the ammo prices and literally compared Eagle 55 grain FMJs to 125 grain Hornady critical defense and said that .300BO was too expensive and he better stick with .223.

I imagine the same lack of critical thinking happens with a lot of non standard rifle and pistols rounds.

Sometimes people just need to pay more attention to quality over quantity. Do you really need that 13th AR in your safe? How bout get a couple quality ones, put decent optics on em instead? Agree, not a "poors" bash or anything of that nature. Usually people can afford higher end stuff if they stop some of their stupid purchases. Sound familiar Rwjeter Rwjeter ? Lol
No comment....

Go with the 6.8 spc ll. The round was a joint effort with Remington and special forces. The first attempt failed but the second go round was a hit. The armed forces are going to swap over to this round eventuslly so they say. The 300 is good but looses it's balls after a couple hundred yards. The 6.8 is dead even with the 6.5 Grendel out to 400. Then the Grendel starts to edge out the 6.8 slowly. The 6.8 is a good 600 yard gun. A range where the 300 just can't hang. Another advantage with the 6.8 is there is very little loss of velocity with barrel length. A 12 inch barrel has almost the same muzzle velocity as a 18 inch barrel. Why? Who knows just a advantage inherent to the cartridge. I have built 10 to 12 6.8's and all have turned out excellent. It's an excellent mid range round with serious close quarters punch. It basically a 270 diameter projectile with a bigger case than the 5.56. Do some research on the round and look up ARP ( AR Performance ). He is a barrel supplier that has developed his own barrels. He gives some great insight on the round and it's performance.

That's not the question. And the Army isn't adopting the 6.8 spc.

Who know's what they are gonna do. I have read countless Articles about the adopting the 6.8. I won't believe it until I see it but I will not sit here and say they won't for sure. That would be like me saying I know it all for sure. If you want to go there then have at it.

I’ve been debating on a short 6.5 Grendel for a light deer buster this year. Hadn’t thought about the 6.8. Might be a good option, but I’ma total noob to it and wouldn’t know where to start.

Keep reading. And take off your blinders as being in love with the spc.
