So. I follow the guidelines for charging a dead battery. Remove from car for charging etc.. Put the battery back in and the car starts but none of my cluster gauges work. Gas level, mph, temp etc.
Any advice welcome short of putting a bullet through the engine block.

I have zero first hand experience with Mercedes... however, I did pop a couple of fuses in a Saturn once when we tried to jump start it. Of course, we also changed the battery right after, so it could have been either.

Check fuses and maybe fusable links (if Mercedes even has those)

Check your connections.
Take it for a 8-10 mile drive to recharge the battery fully.
Check the battery with a volt-meter and make sure its charging.
Check fuses.

My guess is the battery is not fully charged or won't hold a charge.

This has been my experience with Mercedes as well. It it is not fully charged you will lose some of your electrical features. Check the charge and have a shop check the battery.
