B Co 2/505 PIR - That's 82nd Airborne.. not a Ranger Unit. I think a lot of 82nd was already Airborne. Their mission is even funnier than the SEALs. They were gonna do an airfield siezure with a Regiment sized element. We do the same mission with Battalion sized and link up still take a long time. We wondered how long it would take to get 2000 dudes organized once they were on the objective..if they managed no to light each other up.

Are you serious?

Look up Vietnam and get back to me.

We never lost a major battle, mopped up the NVA and Cong during TET...We were not allowed to go in staging areas like Laos or Cambodia (yeah, right!) and beat the SOB's on their own turf....It was given back to the Arvn's because our Government sold out the Military as usual..So tell me more about this Nam thing?

HA HA. :thumb:

yeah, after the 'stand down' order, we wouldn't get off the planes.. it was 'screw this, we're gonna kill something!' mentality. Messages was still coming in, go, no go. Oh well.. no lives lost, Haiti would still be a cess pool.. sometimes not shooting works out. Just takes awhile to see it.

Panther brigade! I was 1P back in 05-08. The funny thing about the 82nd is how proud they are of their capabilities, but they never actually get to seize anything. There was one actual airborne op into Iraq, '04 I believe. And from what I hear all of the staff pukes were kicking the privates off in order to get their mustard stains. And the DZ was already secured by US Forces.

Now what they need to do is make it the first free fall division. Now that would be bad ass! I would go back in a heart beat.

Every Airborne soldier wants that mustard stain.. I bet there was nothing lower than a CPT or light colonel on that jump.

82nd is more of a follow on type unit, but the press will cover em.. the other smaller units that actually put boots on ground first leave quietly. I agree with that. Marines and 82nd are the historical projection of infantry strength and perception goes a long ways before the first round gets sent down range.
