what are the legalities to piecing one together at home?
i heard you could buy a pistol grip shotgun then put the
birdseye grip on and chop the barrel and still be legal
Not possible . Its made this way or you are risking large prison time over a crappy mossberg . Whoever told you that is an idiot and you should not listen to them anymore .what are the legalities to piecing one together at home?

Before they marketed them as "Shockwaves", a lot of people used to call them Mossberg Raptors because of the grip. As far as I know, building it yourself was the only way to get one a few years back. You could find the parts list right on Shockwave's website. Legality doesn't seem to have changed much. Except now you can buy a cool lug piece to cap your mag and barrel.
The base shotgun has to be pistol grip only (PGO) regardless.
I think trying to use sights on these are really not an option I put a rail on the top and this mini-laser that works with a push button on the back. Lined up with the front sight it works great held at any angle for being on target. I also modded a magpul forearm (and put the mossberg handle on it for safety) as well.
