Movies as a kid that changed you

Beach Red——1967, The Green Berets——1968, even as a kid both of these movies and one of my friends who lost his big brother in Vietnam in ‘69 showed me that war is as scary as burning to death.

The Exorcist——‘73, that movie just freaked me the **** out!

Jaws——‘75, it took years before I was willing to get back in the ocean. I still won’t get any deeper than my knees and that’s only if I can see my feet. lol

Jaws definitely had an impact as a kid … saw it on the big screen too !

I took my wife to see Jaws on our first date in ‘78, my diabolical plan worked perfectly too. She was holding on to my arm so tight after the first five minutes I was sure I would at least get a good night kiss and I did. This past July 8th was the 44th Anniversary of that first date and just six and a half months later we were married. lol

Having spent many a summer weekend as a boy standing on a submerged sandbank next to my dad in waist or chest deep water fishing in the gulf, and having learned to deter the sand sharks, hammer heads, and other small sharks from eating my catch (which was, of course, attached to a stringer attached to my belt loops) by whipping the rod tip on the shark's nose....

JAWS did scare the crap out of me and changed my view of the once idyllic gulf.

Then as a teenager, I was hanging out one summer with my older brother in Cocoa Beach (he was in the US Chair Force, only worked about 15 hours a week). He decides one weekend to watch "The Hunger", with David Bowie, "Blue Velvet" and "Nine and a Half Weeks". Yeah, one weekend and a whole lot of my thought processes got messed up. Not movies I'd ever watch or quote around my kids.

Lot of westerns and war movies to keep that family patriotic history thriving as well.

I had the same plan. Took my girlfriend ( now wife) and her best friend (later bridesmaid) to see Carrie. They sat on either side of me. By the end of the movie I felt like I had been in a fight that I had badly lost. Even lost some skin on one arm from a set of claws. 😂
All worked out for me as well. Married 43 years now to that same pretty girl! So I guess you could say it had a major effect on my life.

Should’ve left that best friend at home man. I was lucky though, I just got pinched about a dozen times. It hurt but at least I wasn’t bleeding. Lol! Congratulations on 43 years, we got married 43 years ago last January. It blows my mind just how fast the time has gone by, once I was a strong as a bull 19 year old kid who thought I knew it all and was gonna conquer the world. Here I am pushin’ 64 and I do good not to tip over trying to put my drawers on.

Congratulations to you as well! Ain't many of us stay together that long anymore. I know the feeling too. I use to jump down from the barn loft without thinking about it. Now I won't jump out of the bed of my pickup without some serious consideration!

2nd the motion on The Birds
Always loved Suzanne Pleshette
and back then she was smokin'.

Another one that caught my attn was
Taras Bulba with Yul Brynner and Tony
Curtis playing Kosaks fighting some nation
as well as among themselves. Giddy up
