Walmart sells a 50" flambeau case for like $12. I usually incorporate this buy with a gun purchase because so many companies just use cardboard boxes now. The case is a cheap protection against shuffling wear and tear and make great cases to transport to/from the range. They are big enought You can double up or have enough room for mags/accessories/etc.
$12 a pop when you need 10/15 ends up being a lot for just one move so I would go with the padded blankets since you have a safe. Pro tip, put something weighted on top of your pile to get them from bouncing around when you hit bumps.
