Here is the most recent turtle shell slate call that I've made. All of the calls that I make are from box turtles that are already deceased. I find most of the shells while hunting. I've made several over the years, mostly for friends. They sound pretty good too-nice and soft-typical of slate-a perfect call for those of us who tend to call too loudly. The slate is hand-fitted to the shell then carefully epoxied into place. I just got finished carving and detailing the striker tonight. This one has a carbon tip for a little added pitch. Once I scuff the slate up with a pad it'll be ready to go. I actually completed this one without any bloodshed, so I say it's a win!
