My wife picked out this 38 Special -hope she can handle it ok

Shooting that will not be fun. What you might consider is helping her out by starting with some lighter loads to build a bit of confidence.

This isn't a "100 rounds at the range for fun" gun.

Oh hell a gun snob done should up popping off his mouth.. now he will have smart aleck comment to me.. but anyways OP hope yer wife enjoys it.. I love all the Taurus pistols I’ve ever shot

Best move I ever made was including my wife in firearms training. I let her and Corey (9Bar) figure out what would work for her. She wound up with a Walther PDP-F. Never heard of such a thing but she loves it. I think her satisfaction came from not only the gun fitting her hand properly but , I didn’t tell her what she needed. She’s gotten really good and enjoys it. Weird.

I agree with everyone that used the word “training” in their reply.

I'm not a Taurus fan, but I've never owned one. My Wife used to like a Charter 38 I had. I couldn't shoot it well, but she did. I'd still like to have one of those 44spl Bulldogs. Thing is if she likes it, that's all that is needed.
I lucked out on my Wife's pistol. I had taken her to look at some. I think she had it down to 2 or 3. She couldn't make a decision. So I stopped on the way home from work and bought her one, Colt 380 Gov. That was @ 40yrs ago and she still likes it, carries it and shoots it well. 380 wouldn't be my first choice. But that's the one she uses.

Get her started with some wadcutters. Ought to be able to handle them o.k. Might just stick with them if she can shoot a good group.
Best would be if he loads. A slow burning powder would be a good choice with a light bullet. If he had a 22 revolver, that might be a good choice to start with
