Need place to go shooting!

I see they've got a gravel road to the right of the targets. Do they allow people to bring 4-wheelers with them to drive back and forth to their target?
To answer your question, if you are talking about the rifle range you can drive your car or truck down to set up your targets, which is what I (and most people) do.

I have been a member of Elbert County Gun Club for close to 10 years and I will absolutely second the recommendation to join that club. Every weekend the gates are unlocked and they are open to the public, so you can get an idea of what they offer. You just have to go down to the club house and sign in. I do believe that there is a $5.00 charge for non members.

Thanks for info!

I couldn't tell by the pic how rough the road was. I've got a truck, but its just a 2WD so I didn't know if an ATV would be better.

I'll have to go check them out one weekend.

My older brother and a friend that lives in Athens/Crawfordville asked me about a gun range somewhere in the areathey live and I thought about Gunsite Hills. Then I remembered this thread and the couple of negative comments about the place and it's owner Chief, and so I didn't recommend his place to them. However, I've always been the type of person that would go straight to a man if I had questions and ask him directly before making my mind up about his character. I felt it only fair to do this before I not recommended his place to my brother and friends. So after reading the comments here, and another comment I'd heard about how he was toward women and children, I decided to ask him about it myself. I heard back after awhile because he doesn't check his email that often. I also got a separate email from a young lady that once managed his place and left due to her situation not anything he did. She had only great things to say about him, but I'm not posting her email.
Now before I post his reply I must admit I did recommend that my brother and his friend give him a try. They were pleased and had nothing bad to say about Chief or his place. Does that mean it's the same with everyone, no it doesn't, but that was the experience they had. Also my brother didn't tell him that I had emailed him about his place before, so he didn't treat them any certain way based on that. Chief mentioned about his time in the military and how he also keep's his place in check even if it means hurting the feelings of a customer. Anyway below is what he had to say. I must say after reading his reply, and from my brothers experience, I'd use his range if I was in that area. I have really thick skin though!:)

Sorry for taking so long to respond. I don't do email or check it
much. I appreciate your being up front. That is sorely missing in todays
world. yes, I am loud and gruff & an old retired Navy chief and I tend
to bark orders and move on. Also about deaf so I do tend to holler
to be heard. Yes I am a crusty old Navy chief and I curse and swear
too much around but not at people. But I am brutallly blunt and when some
people can't take it. They make an appointment for 0900 and come
drifting in at 1030 or 11 and say "**** Happens" . Then I tell them right
quick that this is not "burger king. All you have to do is call and warn me
so I don't keep running back and forth to the range checking to see if You
are there yet.
On a range a lot of lives are on the line and If you make an
appointment at 0900 then that is the only thing I know about you. Are
you the kind of person I can trust on my range and if you can't keep
your word/make an appointment/honor there committments then right
away I have to question if are they the kind of person I can trust running
around on my range with a loaded guns. That is my litmus test when you
show up at the front gate and I tell them so in no uncertain terms.
Some folks just can't deal with that. If not Maybe they shouldn't be
here.
Those same folks will get busy socializing and picking up brass
and end up drifting in front of the bench and don't even realize it
until I yell at them. Then they jump back and get all offended and
say it didn't happen when everyone on the range saw it. Then when
they basically call me a liar I am done with them.
Sure I make mistakes like everyone else but I am quick to admit it if
I do and I expect the same in return. I am also quick to take it
personal if you are a know it all/question everything type who
challenges me about the most basic safety issues and basically calls me
a liar. Then I take it real personal. And I will hurt your little feelings
real quick.
I am military and I DON'T DO LATE and I DON'T DO EXCUSES.
That sort of attitude will get you hurt or killed in my line of work.
Simple as that.
On the range with 7 AR's going pork chop hill is not the place to be
politically correct. I have to yell loud and quick. Quite often they
will be all wound up in their adrenalin rush and will not hear me for
3 -4 times because they are having fun while I am constantly watching
out for everyones safety.I don't socialize and have fun. I watch out
for the range.
We have low berms and shoot slow and careful and under absolute control
and I limit it to just a few people that I can trust to adhere to those guidelines.
If you are in a hurry and want to rattle off rounds with your AR then this is not
the place for it. Spray and pray is not authorized.
I have people who try to cheat me and bring their buddies gun and
him along to (watch) shoot it for free for a stinking $25 range fee.
Shoot a hole in a $2000 steel target, Then get mad and leave when I
confront em with it. after I told em more than once not to shoot it
with that gun.
I don't advertise at all and anyone who has taken my classes will
tell you they loved it and learned a lot for a tenth of what everyone
else charges. And in 1 day.
As for me not liking the women and kids that is a bold faced lie. All
of my regulars and the hundreds who attend my classes will tell you I
Prefer women and kids over the macho know it all types any day and I
make no bones about it. I specialize in ladies and kids. And they always
make the best shooters.

thanks,
Chief.
