Every captain I know cleans or has his mate clean the fish. Just remember, these captains don't make a hell of a lot of money and the mates make even less. The charter may sound expensive but marine fuel is not cheap. Tip generously.

I've gone with Captain Benji Kelley on the Miss Kelley about 5 times and have always come back with a huge mess of fish. He goes out of the Marina at Captain Anderson's.

+1 Had my first charter trip with my family on that boat. We caught a mess of fish, even got my first warsaw grouper on that trip, my dad got a wahoo also.

My fishing experience is in Orange Beach but I imagine off the pier there you will get the same type of fish, spanish and king mackerel, red fish, ladyfish, speckled trout. If you are going to be catching mackerel you need steel leader, they are toothy fellas. A medium heavy action rod and spinning reel will serve you well. i suggest using braid to avoid break offs on the pilings.
