Recently got a Winchester Model 70 in 7mm Rem Mag - and I am looking to scope the darn thing!

I am looking for a good hunting scope - but I know that I will end up taking the thing to longer ranges eventually (over 600 yards) - just not shooting game at that distance.

Do any of you guys have firsthand experience with the 7mm Mag, and optics that jive well with it?

Budget? Any particular features you want or don't want? Magnification range, first or second focal plane, type of reticle, zero stops, capped turrets, etc.
Budget is... up in the air. Ideally somewhere in the $500-$750 range - it just wildly depends on what I can find on sale etc.

I would like to have elevation turrets - but preferably not the tall tactical type to get snagged on everything. Capped vs. uncapped - I can be convinced either way.

Magnification - low end - 3-ish to high end 15ish - but I can be convinced by first-hand experience in a lot of different directions. I have a cheapo 3-10 that seems decent enough - but if I can get more magnification, why not?

FFP/SFP - I don't have a strong preference. I have used both - and while I like FFP better in theory - I would rather have better glass quality than a better focal plane. With a 7mm Mag - any shot that I NEED to compensate precisely for, I will have the time to dial for. (7mag shoots flat out far enough that anything that is super far will have to go through the mental game of "is this too far to be ethical" and taking that time will be a good thing)

I would probably like a Mil-type reticle - but am not super sold one way or the other. I do not want something super fine that will get lost in dark woods - but also don't want something so thick and dark I lose detail on targets at long range. My hunting sightlines vary from about 30 to 600 yards - so I would like a pretty versatile optic/reticle.

Zero Stop would be nice - but not end of the world if it does not have it.

I have a few I am looking at (most are outside of what my budget allows) but I am half-hoping I can trade an Acog for one of them.

Midway has the DMR II from Bushnell on sale for 725. Checks off a lot of what you are looking for. At the price point, I don't feel like you are giving up glass quality for the ffp reticle. 3.5-21, g3 reticle. Has tactical style turrets, but they are short
:-(

It is showing as $800+ for me...

I can't find squat on the scope dimensions - but does it have the tube length to mount on a long action (without using a one piece pic base - I want to mount rings directly to my receiver)

Shockingly, they are running the best deal on the illuminated reticle.

I have been looking at (so far):

Burris Veracity 3-15x50 (Natchez SS has blemish versions for stellar deals)
Leupold VX-5HD 3-15x44 (hoping to find one on super-sale)
Vortex Razor HD LHT 3-15x42 with the MRAD reticle... again... hoping for the ultra-sale.

I will have to do more research into the Bushnells, and see if I can find one to put my hands on and see how I like the glass in comparison to the others...

The DMR II is an ultra sale. Smokes the other options you listed.
