Why mount directly to the receiver? Get a 20MOA Picatinny rail and give yourself a lot more options.

I have a Weathby 7mm RemMag that has a cheap Simmons 8 point 3x9x40 and does well. I’ve owned it for 25 years. Same scope and shouts 1” groups at 200 yards

Frankly - and bluntly - because it is a Super Grade - and on a gun that pretty, I will not be sticking an uggo-pic-rail on it.

Oh - that was not meant to disrespect the opinion... I know that objectively a rail as you described is a better idea - and more functional... it just feels like painting a pretty wood gun.
