Gents,

My neighbor has this old automatic pistol that looks to be a vintage CZ. He said he got it from his great uncle, who received it from his father - whatever. It was also supposed extremely rusted when the uncle got it and tried to clean it up. The trigger spring is broken, it's missing the magazine, and I cannot find any marking or ID on it anywhere.

Anyone have any idea what model it is? It has a rotating barrel and a leaf-spring type mainspring. No proof marks or stamps on any of the internal parts. Barrel looks to be a .380, but could be a 9mm Makarov. I don't have any Mak ammo to test fit in the chamber. The .380 headspaces on the rim and much of the base is exposed.

This is a CZ 27. During the occupation of Czechoslavakia the Germans captured the CZ gun factory they basically forced the Czhechoslovakia captives to make these guns from the infrastructure of Czech life. The stamp will be a Waffenstamp showing it was accepted for military use. The stamp is very faint and I must say very odd looking almost not a natural stamp. It should be an Eagle over a Swastika with a WAa 63 marking if I'm not mistaken.

MaidenFan,

I've been doing a lot of researching on the leads I've received so far. I think this one is earlier than a 27. All 27's I've seen documented have been 7.65/.32 ACP. This one is definitely a 9mm kurtz/.380. The 27 also has a simplified blowback ejection system, this one has a rotating barrel lockup. I think it is a CZ 24, but differs from those I have seen.

Research led me to the knowledge the CZ 24, produced in 9mm kurtz, was manufactured in two varieties - "Pre-occupation" and "Post-occupation." The pre-occ slides all seemed to have angled slide cuts. The post-occ's must be the ones produced with the straight cuts like the CZ 27. Here are some comparisons.

CZ 24 - 9mm kurtz / .380
The CZ 24 has angled slide cuts and a rounded slide.

CZ 27 - 7.65mm / .32 ACP
The CZ 27 has straight slide serrations and a flat side.

This one - again, straight cuts, rounded slide.
I am thinking this is a post-occupation CZ 24. That and the almost obliterated Nazi eagle over swastika . . . . . .
