It's arguable how effective they are but agreed that it's not awesome. It won't stop an individual virus cell, but it will stop the water that you're breathing out that the virus cell is in.

What they are good at is catching mass germ spreading. When you cough and sneeze, you let out a lot more junk. Masks greatly reduce that.

I'm not a gross ahole that is going to sneeze on something and just walk on. A lot of people are though. If my wearing a mask helps others be encouraged to wear a mask so I don't touch something that person sneezed on two hours ago, I think it's worthwhile.



Hey you used a stat. That stat is 10x higher (actually more) than flu stats. Ok that you don't believe individual stats, but we're talking orders of magnitude differences. I don't think the exact numbers matter so much when they get this high. I think there's plenty of evidence that covid is real and it's bad.

I don't know if you guys remember how the mask thing started. I was watching it close because my wife was sewing masks like crazy from the very beginning.

At first, even Fauci said "we're really not sure that masks will be effective for the public but we're looking into it". Also.. "we are trying to get as many supplies to hospitals as fast as possible"
- To me, that was obvious "we don't want everyone to buy up all the masks now"

Then, reports started coming from Asian countries and their mask mandates. They have dealt with bad viruses more in recent history. They were better supplied so they went straight to mask mandates.

Then, Asian doctors starting saying stuff like "Why the F aren't you guys wearing masks yet?"

Finally, US officials caught on and started recommending masks. By then, lines had been drawn on the issue and it was political. CDC was backtracking on what it said before and it was just a complete mess. Politicians caught the backtracking and it made a fuss about it (justified).

Masks were a good idea from the very start. The CDC, Fauci, and government in general overall failed on the mask issue. It's a respiratory virus... masks are what you do to help prevent it. That's been known for a very long time.
