New CDC guidelines!!

So, the CDC has to "estimate" the difference in deaths between 2018 and 2020? Why can't they just do the math?
I guess they gotta use science instead.
That is the math and yes it is an estimate.

The estimate has to do with determining the number of "normal" deaths for 2020. They're not just comparing to 2018. The number of deaths varies from year to year. Lets say 2.70M to 2.85M people die every year for the last 5 years. Then, in 2020 about 3.4M died.

There's a 100k variance in previous years so you can't just take 3.4M minus 2.8M to find the answer of how many excess deaths there were. The number of deaths has been trending upward with population so that has to be factored in also. They provide the mid-point and also the possible variance.

I know all the numbers being thrown out by the media are confusing. I say that completely unsarcastically. Many reporters don't understand the numbers.
