Nightforce NXS vs US Optics and Leupold vs SWFA SS

The 5-20 and 10x are hd models. Glass is on par with the nxs, bushy dmr and gen 1 razors. Made by LOW Japan. Downside is it's skimpy on features. Basic reticle, no zerostop or rev indicator. Illumination is pretty meh too. Doesn't do the entire reticle. If you go the 5-20 route wait for cyber Monday or tax day. They will discount them to around 1k.

I think I might just weight for a discount. I might as well play around my other stuff, the money saved could go towards a clip on night vision devices that I could use on feral hogs.

I highly recommend a variable-powered optic. Much more versatile than a fixed power. The US Marine Corps finally accepted how rugged modern variable powered optics are and switched from fixed power Unertls/USO's back in 2005. It was a an upgrade that was a long time coming.

I deployed to Mogadishu with a 10x Unertl and it hampered us in many ways.

I highly recommend NF scopes, but they do not make a fixed power tactical scope. They do have a 42x Competition scope, but I don't think that's what you're looking for.

For your budget I can highly recommend the Nightforce NXS 5.5-22x50mm. Comes with a ZeroStop and illuminated reticle.

Again.

don't get a fixed power, you will regret it. get something that goes to at least 18x, its better to have the magnification and not need it than need it and not have it. Also stay away from "if its good for So and So" Tier 1 units get what they want there is no standard issue. USOs are good and so are the NXS line either one should serve you well. you could also look at the Bushnell Elite Tactical line.

Seriously, man. Don't get a fixed. The old thing about them being more reliable simply isn't true anymore. You lose nothing going with a variable and gain a huge advantage. As for the magnification range, what is going to be your primary use of the weapon?

Setting up a PSR that is similar in specs/requirements of military PSRs. I don't care about a "gamed out" set up with 25x magnification etc (I would if I was shooting at a mile etc). I want the set up that's similar to what was used in the battlefields, like the army's M24 SWS.
