A lot of people, including myself, Love the .40 cal. Most everyone else HATE the caliber.... Why is this? I have seen a ton of posts in the Handgun forum where people are avoiding it like the Plague. I cant figure it out. I though it was supposed to be the best of both worlds..... both worlds beeing the 9 and the 45.

To each his own. I love the .40 as well, but they are hard to get rid of on here. You can sell a 9mm in minutes. Some people just don't like the recoil...same reason they deer hunt with a .223

A 9mm is cheaper to shoot and with the right loads almost equal in "power". The recoil on a .45 is more of a push than the violent snap of the .40 so it's easier to shoot well. I have a couple of .40s as the ammo is always plentiful, but they are not my favorite caliber to shoot. Many folks start with a .40 (not sure why) and then they discover the recoil is snappy and 9mm is much cheaper and just as effective - that's why we see them listed here...

Oh yeah, I forgot the price thing!

Yeah, i mostly practice and plink with 9mm and have some 45s for when the urge arises. Just dont want to keep a third full set of glock sizes lol, ammo, mags, etc =) I dont hate the 40, just dont want or feel the need for a third caliber.

One of the very few guns I really disliked was a Kahr PM40. It was well made and accurate for its purpose but painful to shoot well with defensive loads. I carry a "baby" .45 and can shoot it all day, but I detest the little .40s...

One of these days I will finally drop the .40, maybe. It's hard though, and yes like NGIB said it was my first caliber (after I learned pistol shooting with a .380)...

Best of both worlds indeed..Close to the same power as a 9mm with a price tag equal to that of .45..guess my hearts on my sleeve on this one, give me a 9 or .45 any day you can keep your "in between"
