No Scammers

This is tough. We were all new once.

Restricting new members to invite only, especially by high feedback, established members seems like it would completely stunt site growth. Which some might appreciate but in general would probably be considered not a good thing.

Is there way that established members could generate a referral code? Like all the other popular apps that do something similar. This can link the new member to the refferal giving member, maybe giving the new member a specific badge showing they were reffered. But also link any negative feedback for the new member to the established one. Say for one year before the badge and link expire. This could help establish trust for new and low feeback users.

It's easy enough.

Simple change to the system that adds "Vouch for" in addition to "Buyer", "Seller" and "Trader" (if it's possible with Xenforo).

Post feedback using the "Add Feedback" button that notes that you 'vouch' for the person. Put your reputation on the line, and while you're at it, you're adding to his positive feedback score.

Problem with that is that people already try to pad their feedback with 2nd accounts for their "wife", "son", "brother" etc.. And more than a few of the scammer accounts have been "supporters".

Feedback should be only tied to a sell or purchase. Anyone can make multiple profiles and give positive feedback to one making it look like they're trustworthy.

I like the idea of only lifetimers getting to have a say in whether a post is a good deal or not.

I just messaged an established user about some parts. They wrote back and I replied to the message. Then got a message from a brand new user telling me to email that address instead.

Reported it as suspicious- then realized how it happened.

I had accidentally replied to their for sale thread vs the message from the seller.

^ They responded very quickly meaning someone/bot/whatever is actively watching.

Be safe out there

I think too many people are able to crappy little things that deserve negative feedback but don't get it or when given it somehow gets removed. This results in seeing amazing feedback ratings for people who really don't deserve it. This doesn't necessarily end up with a sale, and that's my point.

Looking to snag an upper from a user here. Has 16 positive feedback but requesting payment via Zelle. He sent video and all checks out. New to the forum and hesitant pulling the trigger. Any suggestions for peace of mind?

Was scammed for a good bit on another forum last week and it still hurts.

Depends-

If you're paying face to face while examining it- sure.

If not- maybe try calling/talking on the phone- then deciding to pass or not?

Ended up just passing. Told the guy I would pay after received. Told him I didn’t expect it, that’s just what I would need since he wanted Zelle payment. Provided solid feedback snips from other sources obviously as a vouch. He hasn’t responded.

Could be just upset I wasted his time, or a scammer.

Either way weight off my shoulders with not knowing if it ever actually came.

Thanks for the input guys!
