My wife bought a 2010 BMW in January with 35k on the dial. Great car, drives beautifully. She hit something in the road and when she got home she noticed her tire was low. I went and looked and sure enough it was low, but when I looked closer it had a big hole in the side wall but the tire wasn't completely flat.

Went to the trunk to get the spare, nothing there. Pulled out the owners manual and learned that there is no spare with run flat tires or RFT tires. Went to the tire shop to get another tire and that's when reality set in.

Instead of buying one tire, the guy say's I need to buy two tires. If one tire is added the diameters will be different because of wear and throw the computer off that regulate the transmission and shifting and such.

I also learned that changes in barometric pressure will cause the low tire pressure light to display on the dash. Why can't they just put the spare back in? Dang!
Oh!, and RFT tires are not cheap.

Same here wife has 2014 Volvo it has a repair kit where the spare would be plugs and patches with volvo branded fix a flat it is so lame and be glad you have air in you tires they started putting nitrogen in tires to stop barometric pressure from affecting and you have to pay for some to put it in your tires guess it is easier to charge us money to put nitrogen in the tires than build a better computer that can handle the changes to the pressure

Oh you guys and you fancy cars. OL Betty never lets me down. And she doesn't care about getting door dings.

When I worked at the port processing mostly new Kias and Hyundais I noticed some of them had no spare or tools to change a tire. Some of them did come with a 12 volt tire inflator. But to ME it's insane not to have a spare tire in any vehicle. At first I assumed this practice was just for the stupid little cars like Fiat, Mini and Smart Cars because of a lack of space. But it's now common practice in lots of makes and models.
One quick nod to Subaru here. When I was driving and processing new 18 models they all came with a spare a Jack and basics tool kit.

The guy at the tire shop of full of it. Even old cars have a differential that allows one side to spin faster than the other. It's how we can drive in circles without ripping out the gears. If the tire is the same size then it doesn't matter if one is a bit worn.

Take off the wheel and take it to a Wal Mart. Buy one tire and have it mounted on the wheel. End of story.

OR.....You could wait until the 18th of this month, buy a new mid-engine Corvette and send the wife to work on the bus.

I haven't driven a vehicle with a spare in years. Towing has become inexpensive and tires over 33" are to hard to deal with on the side of the road. I can pay for a lot of tows for that high dollar spare that is a pain to keep in rotation with radials

Bought my youngest a new 2018 Mustang. Spare was a option that I didn’t find out until after I got it home. As it turns out since this car has the performance package no spare is available from Ford. After market is $500. Ill pay the tow.
