You must be spot on. I could not for the life of me get it seated and now I know why. I may open the hole up a bit and grind the lug a little and see if I can sneak it in there.
Use a chain saw to do it. It'll look custom that way

Never hurts to experiment. I took it out of the safe today and it's so smooth. That steel wool does a great job of polishing everything out.Nice. I’ve seen a lot of M1A’s done in “burnt” stocks like that.
