NRA Statement

This is exactly what baffles me as well. I can't believe what I've been seeing as I've been watching "pro" 2nd Amendment rights representatives say this over and over. Even Bill O'Reilly whom I will admit I tune into to get his take on events is waffling. I mean even tonight the man totally disagreed that the 2nd Amendment was put into place to ward off a Tyrannical Government. Mean while his hooter gals where giving their take on AR-15's and their "telescope devices" (referring to collapsable butt-stocks).

I'm one of those that offered up a compromise, and let me see if I can clear up the stance:
Let's play out two scenarios-
1) conservatives stick to our stance of strict interpretation of the 2nd amendment, no compromise. We are seen as anti-children and pro-violence, Wild West and whatever else the media can pin on us. We lose again in the next election cycle because of it. Conservative judges are replaced throughout the court system. The 2nd amendment is reinterpreted, changed, whatever, and voila, it is not illegal to seize our guns.
2) conservatives give not on the right to bear, but rather how firearms are purchased and magazine size (you and I know that magazine size has NO correlation to ability to inflict mayhem, but most idiot Americans do). We are not labeled as anti-children or whatever, and are seen as trying to do something. We actually win an election or two and make sure pro-gun judges stay in office. The 2nd amendment is mostly protected.

i get what we as a group want, it's just facing facts in today's "immediate gratification" society. People will eat these short-sighted solutions up because they can say they did something and go back to their oblivion, and the politicians can get re-elected. Perception is reality to most people. Play to that perception. We (conservatives) lose national elections because our messaging is crap, not because our stances are wrong.

Pointing to what Bryan said in a previous post, someone took the guns away in other countries, and it can happen here if the laws change. Keep up the debate - it's healthy...

Just the mere mention of any kind of gun ban/control has prematurely caused severe damage as if one has already been put in place. And, the people at fault are those who have gone off in a panicked buying frenzy and therefore causing not only a catastrophic shortage in ammunition but a catastrophic shortage of Black Rifles as well. Leave some for the rest of us. It is becoming more and more difficult to even find ammunition in packages of more then 20 rounds. This has also given way to people that wish to take advantage of those that have panicked by charging ridiculous prices for high capacity magazines. Also it has caused manufacturers that use to be strong Gun Rights advocates to turn tail and run. At this time we need to keep a calm and level headed attitude. First off we have no idea just what language will be contained in such a bill. Plus, we aren't even sure if it will pass. When the time comes for us to voice our opposition to what ever bans that the Oboma Administration plans to implement we need to be seen as a group that is rational, level headed and, have all the correct facts instead of a bunch of irrational knee jerk fanatics. We don't want to act like the very people we are accused of being. "A bunch of gun toting crazy people that need to have there firearms taken away and prevented from purchasing any further firearms for there's and other peoples safety."

Am I right, or am I way off in left field? What do you think? And please, remain calm...

Hey, lets see what shakes out here. There is huge public support for eliminating semi-auto rifles all together. The NRA may be looking at ways to use its power to allow for an immediate change to happen, but one that wouldn't restrict our rights. There are a lot of options, lets just see what happens.

Thank you internet for allowing this virus of misinformation and lies infect the voting public. *sarcasm to the extreme*

If you ever told your doctor you were "down, Depressed, feeling out of it" , ever prescribed anti-depressant for any reason do you think you would pass a government evaluation?

What if they took a look at some of the avatars here or post you made even in jest?

How do you answer the question "Why do you think you need a gun?" and not get labeled paranoid?

Yep, accompany that with a government mandated panel of " doctors" or "overseers" calling the shots and it will be just as hard as getting the okay to carry a pistol in N.Y. City.

nobody has any balls anymore.....that is the problem with America and with government so big people are too afraid to stand up to their tyranny.

Change is coming, it needs to in some ways. Why on earth mental health has never been incorporated into background checks is beyond me. Banning guns should really be the least of our worries. How easy it is to get one should be the top.

Because Law enforcement officers and military personnel suffer from PTSD and other mental disorders and have to take medication for it.

This is all about CONTROL....in order to control the masses you must take away the ability to fight back. This is a slippery slope we are entering that I doubt will end well.

"Democracy is two wolves and a sheep deciding what to have for lunch....Liberty is a well armed sheep contesting the vote." Benjamin Franklin

probably because mental health falls under h.i.p.a. rules.

Ask ol Mitt how your "middle of the road" , let's compromise, nothing is absolute and let's beat them at their "messaging" game worked out for him.

Maybe the best way to protect the 2nd amendment is to USE IT for its intended purpose. Maybe a "peaceful assembly" of a few hundred thousand gun owners (with their guns)....say in D.C.? Maybe armed insurrection.....take over a few state Capitals OR MAYBE THE STATE GOVERNMENTS REFUSING TO ABIDE BY FEDERAL LAWS LIMITING GUN RIGHTS?? Or threats of armed insurrection? Would Obama and his cronies be so eager to pass laws to weaken the 2nd amendment if a few million Americans pledged to overthrow by force any President, Congress or Supreme Court that tried to undermine the 2nd amendment IN ANY WAY?

Really, when you think about it, the 2nd amendment is there for just the scenario we are facing....a tyrannical President, Congress and/or Supreme Court trying to take away God-given rights, taxing without representation (Obamacare) .....you know, the stuff our forefathers went to war over.

Perhaps it is time for men of our generation to decide if we are sheep begging for compromise or warriors like our forefathers....men who will defend with their lives the right to keep and bear arms....and only be willing to give up automatic weapons or extended mags when the government forces, LEO's and soldiers, are no longer armed with them. If the 2nd amendment was intended to keep the government honest.....then we are already outgunned. As far as I'm concerned, we need M1's......and I mean Abrams, not carbines!
As Citizens and Free Americans I can not believe we have bought the lie that compromise with the enemy on moral principles is a winning strategy.

The time is rapidly approaching I think when we will all have to "choose this day whom we will serve" and it will be this side or that side....no middle ground.
Ol Andy Jackson wasn't afraid of the Supreme Court like we are today....his solution was simple when the Court passed a law that he opposed....(even though he was wrong).
His response when the Court passed the offensive law? "They passed the law....now let's see them enforce it!!!"

Personally, I'm ready to dump some tea in the harbor. And I don't care what big brother three-digit snooping agency knows it nor do I give a damn what the "majority" in America or the news media think about it. I am not trying to trick them or beg them into allowing me to own any particular weapon. I AM EXERCISING MY RIGHT TO OWN WHATEVER WEAPON I DEEM NECESSARY TO PROTECT MY FAMILY....AND I'M TELLING THEM THAT THEY CAN PASS WHATEVER LAW THEY WANT....AND I WILL FLAGRANTLY DISOBEY IT....AND I WILL GO DOWN SHOOTING WHEN THEY TRY TO ARREST ME FOR IT.

And by the way your scenario #1 above is not the end of the world.....because you left off the last part of it. "And then the real war for America begins....people are forced to choose sides. Government backs down from confiscation in the face of determined show of force by the millions of gun owners of America. Thousands of soldiers and LEO's walk off the job and join citizens...."

And you left off the end of scenario #2 above. "Conservatives are eventually forced by "popular opinion" to give up the old fashioned idea of citizens owning real guns. They accept the compromise of turning in the real guns for air-soft guns and pepper spray. These are deemed adequate self defense weapons to meet the 2nd amendment test by the "public majority" and the new Supreme Court.

Force their hand....let them "confiscate" a firearm from a sweet old grandmother and let something "go wrong".....and then an internet video of a Jackbooted TSA, FBI, HSA agent manhandling poor Grandma hit the WWW....then maybe some people will wake up and decide if they want to live in the constitutional republic our forefathers gave us or some type of modern "democracy" with socialist/fascist leanings.

Sorry...I'm done....I will just read and grit my teeth from now on...

^THIS THIS THIS THIS!!!!!!!^

This has already been inching into place & has been disarming our vets.

I was attacked by an ex back in 2007 & my grandmother was diagnosed with cancer the same month.. I went to the doctor about a cold I had & she asked if I was stressed & after telling her about those two happenings, she told me she wanted me to take Xanax if I felt stressed & gave me a prescription for them. I got the prescription filled but never took any. Because of that one prescription over 4 years ago, I could be looked at as unfit to own a weapon by the standards they want to impose.

I have always been extremely respectful to my guns & whenever out with others, if I have even the slightest thought that they may not know more about guns than I do, I will always explain that they should not have their finger on the trigger unless ready to shoot, never mussel flash & so on. I do not take lightly at all that the machine I hold in my hand has the power to end a life. I have always been taught to value life in all forms (except roaches, they can burn in hell) & never even want to imagine having to use my weapon in a deadly situation but if the Psych Eval is made a part of the gun ownership process, I don't think you all realize how many of us law abiding citizens would no longer be legally allowed to own guns.

ANY prescription drug that alters mood will make you an unfit gun owner..

Wow, I don't know how but I guess I never thought that this might be what they are purposing in these new background/registration forms/checks. I sure hope not. Guess we will have to wait and see but one thing that bothers me is I guess it could be argued that the active ingredients in some medications used to treat migraines (this would address me) could be classified as "mood changing". Come to think of it and being truthful (though it is funny), I didn't start gettign these things since about 2007-2008, lol. The Dr.'s say it's the climate / allergies and I have had a few sinus surgeries to adress such in the last year. While A LOT has improved the headaches are still there. Maybe it's the political climate.
