lol every gun manufacturer has a lemon now and then. taurus is the second largest in the world so there for more guns = more problems. i have owned lots of taurus pistols and never had an issue not to say i wont in the future. the worst gun i ever bought was a springfield gi 1911 it was loose new out of the box. would not feed would not eject i put 250 rounds through it and got rid of it

Sig gets my vote. I would not own Kimber or Colt. I haven't had any good experiences with them. In fact I sold my Kimber and chose to keep my High Standard bc it was a better functioning firearm and more accurate to boot. These days I'm carrying a Sig Nitro XO 5" and love it more than any other I've owned. I will also say you can't go wrong with Springer's. Look at the Loaded and the Range Officer. Both in your price range and lots of options for the $$$. JMHO
I did something a little different with my last 1911 I took a RIA frame (Cheapest one I could find) and then ordered a Wilson barrel, Kimber Grips/trigger/hammer, and some other parts and made one to what I was looking for....Total cost (Pre Crazy) $500 Approx and I had a gun that shot better than any of my kimbers or springfields. Just an option from outside the box.

There is no way in hell I would pay $1,600 for a Kimber.
I like my Kimbers but I have to agree, for that money your getting into Les Baer territory which is alot more gun.
No STI love? Guardian in 9 is sweet officer sized bull barrel. There is a reason competition shooters shoot STI... Price point - 1k
