Serious legal question....I've never heard of this before.....my friend last night was talking about how you have to be careful what kind of engraved items you put on your gun in case you ever need it for self defense.....for example, he said that if you use your AR in a self defense situation and your dust cover has the words "You're ****ed" or "Smile, wait for the flash" ... something like that....a good prosecutor could use that to show intent and motive and charge you with murder. He said there was a case a while back where a police officer had to use his rifle to stop a threat and was charged with murder and convicted because the inscription on his rifle was successfully argued to show premeditated intent to kill. Any truth to this? It sounds absurd.

With the Jury pool they draw from today it's possible. If you're innocent, be tried by a Judge, if you're guilty be tried by 12 morons who may be swayed by the shoes you're wearing.

you're = you are.

Keep your carry pistol/rifle stock. Do not alter it to make it easier to shoot, keep the silly stuff for your range guns. In my experiences as a long time law enforcement officer, we were at best discouraged from altering our duty weapons, and prohibited from any alterations by SOP.

I don't know if they would use JUST those to be able to get a conviction but I would still think that it wouldn't hurt their case. many folks advocate keeping carry weapons stock for these exact reasons, better to not have it come in to question at all. Now back to the question of can you get premeditated murder in a self defense situation, sure I would think some cases would call for that.

Don't put anything past a quick thinking attorney in these cases.

Similar scenario, different forum...if you have an arrest for hitting a pedestrian with your car due to speeding...does it look worse if your car has a NOS setup and street drag radials or if your car came bone stock from the dealership?
