ODT attorneys....Can your dust cover prove premeditated murder in a self defense scenario?

Here's a link to the story. The guy looks like he's 12. I can absolutely see him having that on his personal weapon.

And an opinion piece. https://bearingarms.com/bob-o/2016/03/17/officer-faces-murder-charge-questions-ar-15-dust-cover/

I stopped coloring things, putting decals and stickers on stuff after elementary school. Some people never give it up. I guess if their truck is decorated you can bet their glock or AR is color filled.

Nothing controversial on weapons or clothing (not even firearm or gun org. logo), no open carry except at range.
Not only for legal protection, just don't want anything that shouts "shoot me first" if something bad were to start.
Read Mas Ayoob's columns in Combat Handguns for real life horror stories of prosecutors twisting evidence to railroad some poor person who acted in legal self-defense.

Yes, if you have engraving on your gun that makes you appear like a bloodthirsty, trigger-happy nut just waiting for a chance to kill somebody "legally" then the State can and probably will use it against you in court.

It would be combined with other direct and circumstantial evidence, though.

It would only matter, as potentially outcome-changing, if the shooting incident itself wasn't obviously justified.

If I'm in a liquor store when a gang of armed robbers comes in, all brandishing guns, shooting in the air and screaming commands, I could mow them down with a squad automatic weapon with the barrel engraved "Kill 'Em All & Let God Sort 'Em Out" and the selector switch marked "Group Therapy" in full auto setting.

There was actually a recent trial in some small podunck town somewhere (I do remember it was a red state but I don't remember which) Officer involved shooting, ended up being a bad shoot and he was tried and convicted on the dust cover of his AR (he used his personal AR because the department couldn't afford one and it was an approved to be in his vehicle) because the dust cover said You're ****ed

This probably had more to do with it than the dust cover.
