ODT NFA tracker thread

*Me living in a dream world*

They clear out the form 1's and 4's in the efile system, then reopen it and since there's no backlog they're able to keep up and make approvals in a matter of days.

What do you base this on?

I should have qualified that statement with "as we knew it". It's my understanding that the Eforms system was never designed to handle tens of thousands of users. A system capable of that kind of volume, especially for form 4 and form 1 applications, will probably require an entirely new system. Cost, resources and politics will probably make design and implementation of a replacement pretty low on the priority list. Then again, that's just my cynical opinion. However, the information on the prior system capacity came directly from a trusted and very well informed class 3 dealer. Knowing that the original system was ill suited for the volume it saw since last Fall doesn't give me a lot of faith that they'll fix it. It was a good effort, with alot of promise, but I'm sure they regret the headaches it caused with all of the constant system maintenance that was required. As I said, that's just my opinion, based partially on fact and mostly on my lack of faith in bureaucracy. I hope I'm wrong, but I suppose time will tell.

Yea I understand a lot of people are leery of things getting better because of the political elements but remember that it was the ATF/NFAs idea to come up with an electronic system. Remember that it was their job that became easier when Eforms were started. Yea we as "consumers" or whatever we are bogged it down but theres no reason the government has to NOT have electronic submissions. If theres no electronic submission people are still just going to submit via paper. We the likely utter defeat of 41P due to the overwhelming response from the public its my understanding that they aren't going to be making any significant changes to class 3 so I'm sure EForms will be back and it'll be better than before. Like you said though it might not be top priority so it might take so time, meanwhile paper approval times are very low now, so we are still able to get what we can.

Roger that. It's really not so much the politics that give me doubt. Like you said, ATF initiated it and when it worked, they loved it. The cost to upgrade the existing system or build a new one is probably my biggest cause for doubt.

Yea I dont know what it would cost but I remember people saying that its really not hard to build a site/database for what they need. But you know the government overpays for everything.
