Oil Change Scam - Watch Your Car!

Pays to always take your car to an independent shop. They don't have the lawyers to fight you if they screw up :p
That said, I'm an auto mechanic by trade, and I work for myself. Basically means i'm liable if I screw up, sure makes a man take his time to do it right. Everyone should seek out "someone" or a "a guy I know that you don't". There's a reason good shops don't advertise, they don't need to.

If you learn about somebody by word of mouth they are usually to be trusted.

my dealer charges 19.99, why would I go anywhere but the dealer. My dad used to go to a quick lube type and then I changed two oil pans for him because the monkey under the car didn't have training on how to use a torque wrench. For me it's either the dealer or me, no one else.

I hate those quick change places. I have never taken any car to any of them.

Fortunately, i have the space and stuff I need to change oil myself. You never know what kind of idiot is working on your car in one of those places. My Dad had his oil plug stripped out-twice (and spark plug) at two separate Quickie places. He saw them trying to drive his oil plug on once with an air wrench. Pretty easy to strip one if they are stupid enough to do it that way.

Yep I always do my own and my sister's and my parent's. I have had a few problems in the past with quickie places, they were all minor but they don't happen when I do it.
