The head gasket in my 2007 5.7L Toyota Tundra failed at 316,000 miles... once the heads were removed to make repairs we discovered more issues caused by the previous owners. It's clear that the previous owners allowed oil levels to run low and this low oil condition caused excessive heat, I am actually surprised that I was able to get 46,000 enjoyable miles out of it before the head gasket failed.

Rebuilding the engine is a very expensive option, and I don't know what additional damage is hidden from view. Also, there are very few shops with the knowledge, experience & expertise required to rebuild these engines. With all of that being said, the decision was made to replace my engine with a low mileage used engine. The used engine that I bought is not a junk yard engine, this engine is from an original owner that invested in a purpose built bored and stroked 3UR-FE race engine. The company that builds these race engines will probably end up buying my old engine.

In any event, I will be selling off some guns and other personal possessions to fund the repairs.

One of the reasons that I continue to put money into keeping this truck on the road is because of it's rarity, and of the 2,202 built I don't know how many are still on the road.

You like it, you like it. You're paying the bills, you don't have to justify to anyone. Except maybe your partner. Toyota is usually good for a long, long time. My Wife tried to get me to buy a new truck some time ago. I told her I hadn't tried to trade her in yet.......Still driving my 94 truck
