Old age whine and looking for help

I love those 3" J frames too but...

A Sig 938 in 9mm or 238 in .380 each packs 8 rounds with the factory +1 mag. Cock the hammer, engage the safety, rack that slide with two fingers, and holster up. A substantial percentage of our customers are Sun City retirees. And a whole bunch of them pack single action SIGs for that exact reason. One of the nice features is that you can load and clear the gun with the safety "on", unlike a conventional S/A 1911 type pistol. Never have to disengage the safety unless you are actually going to fire.

A hack to make racking the slide back easier. Hold the pistol with your left hand around the slide palm up, the pistol will be inverted with the grip up and sights down, grasp the pistol with your right hand by the grip and push forward. The muscle mechanics are much better this way than what most people would consider the traditional way. My 58 yo wife can chamber a round in any pistol we own in this manner where she cannot otherwise.

My wife had difficulty with her G26 on pulling the slide back. I picked up a SCCY in 9mm in a deal and we found it easy to chamber (maybe 50% less strength needed), and a very good shooting, accurate, 10 shot, relatively inexpensive, with a lifetime warranty. My $.02, YMMV.
