Opinion needed about stag handle end

I am not a knife expert but have a question for the ODT brain trust. I traded into a Linder Old Western Bowie Fixed Blade Knife with a real crown stag handle. The end of the handle is rough to the touch. My question is there something that I can apply to seal the end so that it has a smooth finish? See the photo below to see the area in question. This would be the part of the horn that was connected to the skull of the stag.

Is this to be expected with real stag handles? The only other knife I have with a stag handle has a smooth end. This one has a rough texture. Any thoughts?

You can polish it smooth.

You will have to sand it smooth and then buff it if you want a shine
