Opinions needed - Buying a new cooler

I bought the Coleman Extreme after doing the research but I haven't even used it yet. Use a cooler once or twice a year.

The key is to fill up the cooler completely. If you only fill it half way it will melt a lot sooner than if you fill it up the entire way.

I love how these cooler discussions can become so "spirited".

After trying to move a few Pelicans and yetis when full I will stick with my Coleman. If weight is a concern I would think about this. My Coleman weighs 15 lbs and has wheels and the smaller pelican 65 weighs 48 empty no wheels

Another good suggestion is to cool it down before you load it up..I keep 2 gal milk jugs full of water in the freezer. The night before I use it, I put two frozen jugs in until I fill it the next day.
This is a good point. The high end coolers are much heavier and have much more thermal mass. This is a good thing if the coolers are pre cooled because it will take a lot longer for the cooler to get warm. It is a bad thing if you don't pre cool the cooler because it will waste a lot of ice trying to cool down the cooler. A pre cooled high end cooler will hold ice a lot longer than a pre cooled Coleman/igloo but if you don't pre cool they become very close in performance.
