Thinking of buying a Sig 365 X. Gravitating towards the one that comes with the Romeo red dot already installed. The extra bulk / weight doesn't matter to me. I've never carried with an optic before, anybody care to persuade or disuade me?

Do it. A dot on my xl (with relevant dry fare practice) allows me to shoot the compact pistol almost as fast and accurately as a full sized competition pistol.

Dots and practice are faster than irons. The cost is lower now than it’s ever been. I hit targets at 100 yards with my 17.5 with a dot. And did a mag dump at 25 yards into a 6” circle with a 3” barrel last week.

Come to a range by me and I’ll let you shoot it.

I like the price on the pistol/red dot package, what's bad about the romeo? Also, how do you feel about carrying one of these with one in the chamber and no manual safety?
Romeo doesn’t hold zero and doesn’t last to bumps and bruises so maybe as a range gun but not for “actual use”.

I’m ok with no safety. I carried a 1911 for years. To get comfy I carried (empty chamber) all safeties for a few days. I knocked the thumb safety off but it never went bang. Then kept the thumb safety down a few days, hammer never dropped. Then taped the grip safety and thumb safety down, never dropped.

I did the same with the Sig, carried empty for a while, no issues. I even dropped/threw it and never got it to fire without pulling the trigger. I’m comfortable carrying round in the pipe in kydex or real leather with no issues.

I respect the way you handled the safety no safety answer. So many times I’ve heard people hammer their “personal” opinion to others. Kudos…

It helps to be comfortable with your choices and I’m not comfortable with carrying a gun without one in the pipe. After watching a double homicide this year it took a while for me to be comfortable with my gun in a holster. Mostly had it in my hand for a few weeks after.
