Other female members on the odt?

That philosophy has been the cornerstone of just about every unconstitutional law that has been passed in the US and the statistics do not support it. There are some things that it is legitimate to legislate, such as speed limits and driving impaired, but gun ownership and carry is not one of them. We can encourage safe practices and getting training. We can even use peer pressure to promote it, but legislating things based on a personal opinion is a non starter as far as I'm concerned.

In most circumstances we should not make laws because we think things might go wrong, but rather enforce severe penalties against a person that has acted irresponsibly and has caused injury to others. Don't take my freedoms away, but hold me responsible for the results of my actions as a free citizen.

BTW, 99% of the time it's not an accidental discharge, it's a negligent discharge.

I don't feel it's unreasonable to take a class before getting a Concealed Weapons Permit? No different than taking a test to get a license? A vehicle is like a bullet. While we can't prevent all dumb dumbs from killing people with guns and cars we can at least make sure they know which end the bullet comes out and where the brakes are?

Taking a class is definitely reasonable... Being forced to by the government is not.

Did you know that a police officer is 5x more likely to shoot an innocent bystander than an armed citizen is? Training was not mandatory for all the citizens in that statistic, however it was mandatory for the officers...

let me know when a $200 class is mandatory to get a DL

I worked as an RSO...

Licenses and training do not prevent dumb people from doing dumb things.

Try going to court to defend your employer(range) in a civil suit after a father shoots his son in the leg with a 500 S&W while playing 'Cowboy'. (Yes, the son lost his leg)

  • he had watched the safety video(that day).
  • he had signed the paperwork regarding safety rules and liability after I made him read it to me on a video camera.
  • He had a CCW.

Dammit all to hell if you just cannot fix stupid.

Training is always a good idea, it should be a matter of personal responsibility, not a government mandate.
Darwin will always get his.

It is unreasonable to legislate it. Cars are also far more dangerous and complicated to operate than guns. That is proven day in and day out. Can you show me any statistics that support the idea that mandatory training reduces the number of NDs?

 So you are for resticting rights? Driving a car is a privilege that kills a lot more people than firearms.

I'm also not to fond of my right to travel bring infringed on, but that's a topic for another day!

Government tells you driving is a privilege so they can control it. Who gave them the right to declare it a privilege for you? The answer is nobody.

You paid for the roads, you own the car, you even pay insurance on your car like a good citizen.

You have a legitimate point, but common sense does say that there has to be some regulation on certain behaviors. Because of the skill level needed and inherent danger of driving a car it is reasonable to expect other drivers to have to prove a level of skill that does not unduly put others in danger.

The problem with your viewpoint is that while Driving is a Privledge, and is Regulated as such by the State, the Right to Keep & Bear Arms is just that--A RIGHT--Any and all qualifications, limitations, etc., imposed on said RIGHT is, by definition, an INFRINGEMENT...Food for thought....mikey357

Instead of driving, how about a class before you can exercise free speech or freedom of religion? I agree some people could use it, but it's not something that should be required by law.

Still catching up on the posts, but sounds like you're headed to Colorado- enjoy it and I hope things go as good as they possibly could!
