Over Gassed

I understand that the gas port would have to be larger for a shorter barrel. Less time for the projectile in the barrel equates to less pressure. A larger gas flow allows for more gas in a shorter time.

Would have thought that the port would have been the same for everything more than 16 inches. Guessing that the longer barrel need a larger port as pressures may be dropping past 16 inches.

? The more length of barrel you add past the gas port the more pressure you're going to build through that port.

Don't overthink think it. There is quality manufacturers out there that have compiled massive amounts of data (particularly on 5.56mm) on what works and what doesn't work. Take their word for it, you're not going to figure out something they haven't.
