Pet shot and at the vet

Why would one be arrested and charged with a felony for shooting a feral cat?

I'm not a lawyer.... I'm assuming he lives in a residential neighborhood in Marietta and that the houses aren't so far apart if the cats are truly a nuisance. Reasonable assumption? Shooting someone's pet (they are taking care of it, and I would guess they would be unhappy enough to tell the cops as much) in their back yard would land you in a good bit of trouble. My neighbors (all 2nd amendment friendly pet owners who put Romney signs in my front yard, basterds) would do everything in their power to prosecute said person. I would ponder how not to involve the police. (edit:Roids) Aside from action not shining a happy light on gun owners.

I'm not a cat person. My advice wouldn't be in support of. Pick up a kitten for free on your way home.

in fact... take a few... OP, pm me and I will give you my address. There may be a win-win after all.

When you come down my street they will dart all over the place. There are a bunch of black and white one. A couple tabby, and decent number of grays and two REALLY mean tom cats that run **** on the block. Most of em live in the sewer about 50 yards from my front door. They come out in the evening and morning alot. Bring a net... they are really quick. I did the back and forth swerve thing driving home to try and confuse them into my tires. They are too smart for that. I think at least one of them peed in my garage at some point. I also tried the remote start thing a couple times in the middle of the night, but no luck. Found a hair ball on my jeeps soft top the next morning. Its getting pretty crazy. My dogs are afraid to go outside because one of the mean tom cats hides in the bushes and hits the dogs in the nose regularly. I dont know what to do. I may have to list the house and leave the state. I hope a pregnant one doesnt following me or hide in my vehicle somewhere.

I would buy a suppressed air rifle and go to town.

We've got about a 3 year old cat that showed up back at the house last Friday with a gunshot wound to the front left shoulder. Took him to the vet today and they are wanting $970 to amputate the limb or $175 to euthanize. These fees are including the $120 we are already in for the exam and X-ray. The wife and kids like the damn cat, well I do too but having a hard time coming off the hip 1K (would have to use credit as I don't have that much free $$ laying around) what would you do?

I take it that "showed back up at the house" it is your pet, doesn't matter if it's a cat, dog, rabbit or bird, it came back to it's family for help.

A household, pets included is expensive at times.

This does sound awful. I would call animal control. You know you can't reason with your neighbor, they are no doubt bigger whack jobs than I.

At the time my wife had a male Yorkie that was 5 that meant the world to her and it got kidney stones real bad. They actually all lodged in his penis at one time. She went for the surgery and they actually made him another penis out of tubing that came out below his anus and thats how he went pee. There is NO telling how much money we had in that little dog between the surgeries and all the after affects from the block urine passage. Not doing the surgery was not an option, but then again she made about 95K a year. He made it another 2 years and it was well worth every penny!!! The dogs name was Jake but she spelled it Jaque and thats where my user name came from.

We had a cat show up at my home about 6-7 months ago. We named him Tom (for tomcat) and he stuck around and became another one of our barn cats. I really liked him as he ran off any other cats that came onto the property. After a couple months we found him out on the porch and he couldnt walk. Was pissing all over himself and vomiting, so I bit the bullet and took him to the vet. 200 bucks later we found out it was either feline leukemia or he had gotten into rat poison.( Which I have none of on my land) Got him his meds and he recovered for about a week. After that he went downhill pretty fast, and the vet had told me he would give me a "deal" since he was essentially a stray and euthanize him for 200 more bucks. The next day I found Tom laying in his own piss and vomit out next to the food bowl unable to move and having an occasional seizure. So I put him out of his misery with a 22. Single shot and no more pain, I believe that was the best course of action, then my wife and I dug him a grave and buried him on a hill next to the house.

TLDR- No shame in putting em out of misery yourself. In my opinion there is a bit more honor in it then being chucked in a plastic bag and disposed of/burned.
