My A/C unit at my house crapped about a month ago and I was hit with a pretty decent number to have it fixed. Can't go through a Georgia summer with a wife from Ohio and two children under 4 without A/C. To ease some of the financial burden I decided to GASP sell three in my collection.
1. Albanian SKS. I know...tough to come by. It had a screwed up non-original finish so it wasn't perfect. I may get one again one day, won't miss it too much.
2. Swiss K31. Definitely made a profit on this one. Prices have increased quite a bit in the last two years. I never really got the appeal of this gun, didn't think it was pleasurable to shoot. I'll probably get another one day.
3. Russian SKS. Sucks to sell this one. I will definitely get a replacement sooner than later.
I seriously was having trouble emotionally letting go of these, but I knew I needed to. I have been out in my safe for an hour or two looking at milsurps I don't mess with often to remind myself that I still have some cool toys. It's a weird mental and emotional fascination I had....needed reassurance about letting those three go.
1. United Arab Republic Rasheed
Found this one on Armslist (I know....scary) in Tulsa, Oklahoma at a pawn shop. These folks had no idea what it was. Had it listed for $400....I called them and said I'll take it if they will ship it. Owner said he hated having to ship guns and would charge me $200 to ship it because he really didn't want to go through the hassle. I told him we had a deal.
2. 1944 German Gewehr 43
This baby would pay off the entirety of my A/C replacement....but yeah right. Got it from the Cabelas in Canton GA, was in a bidding/buying war with a guy from Wisconsin who was trying to buy it over the phone. The crown jewel of my C&R rifles.
1943 Swedish Ljungman AG42B
Bulletpaluza had been trying to talk me in to one for a while. Called a gun store I knew that had some in the past, they said this was their last one, that they were selling it on gunbroker that very minute. Said it had a small crack in stock brow the action. Bought it for a great deal, came with bayonet and sling and sent to a professional gunsmith in Pennsylvania to repair the wood. Turned out great and is an excellent shooting gun.
1908 Springfield Krag. From a fellow ODT member. Best bolt action I've ever shot, the action is as smooth as silk. If I could find ammo on a regular basis I would shoot it often.
Springfield Armory 1903a3
Got this from a fellow ODT member. Wanted one as I kept seeing people going to the CMP is Alabama and picking them up back in the fall. Had problems with the bolt that I could not figure out. Was a serious head scratcher. Turns out the ejector was broken, super easy fix. Very accurate rifle.
1943 German K98
Got this from a fellow ODT member. Had a strange and non-original stock finish. It's a Russian Capture but someone removed the red Russian shellac finish and put try-oil or something on it. I stripped her down and finished with linseed oil....turned out very nice in my opinion
