Pistols Cal .40 - Why They Are So Hated?

I don't hate the .40 just don't feel the need to add another caliber.
Have wondered why so many 9mm pistols also have a .40 version.
If so many manufacturers feel both calibers need to be produced
figured that was a sign somebody must be buying .40 versions.
I'd hate to buy one then have the new .41 come out and have
to start the whole cycle over again.

I just bought a 41 but nothing new about it.

And ALL the .40cal guns are like:

I still carry and shoot a .40 M&P Compact bought off a good member here. I carry my M&P 2.0 9MM Compact more. I feel safe with either gun.

Realistically there’s nothing “wrong” with the caliber, for myself and others I’ve talked to, it’s more a logistics issue. 9mm HP technology and development has made huge strides in the past decade, beating 45 and coming close to .40 in ballistics and terminal energy transfer. So basically you get more rounds with 9mm, similar performance and a few rounds more in capacity.. not to mention drastic recoil reduction from the .40
That discounts any ability of ammo manufactures of improving except the mighty 9mm, and also defies all logic.

I shot .40 Cal for years and still have several pistols. I was issued a 40 for 20 years. I'm much older now and realize my eye sight is going and im more sensitive to recoil. I have switched to the 9 mm. Ballistics seem to be close to me. Plus I like the extra bullets per mag. I think its personal preference.

I can relate to this. Glock 27 was edc for many years, and then I noticed my accuracy went to hell with it, and another identical G27 as well. I am getting older and losing enough strength (and vision) to really notice that it's harder for me to accurately control the .40 in a sub-compact platform.

I started exploring 9mm realm after researching modern ballistics results several years ago. 9mm has improved so much over the years I don't have any qualms with it as a SD round. Bought a Gen4 G17, and more recently a G19 Gen 5, and I am much more accurate with both now days. And I also like having 16 rounds of HST in the G19.

On the other hand, for "night stand" weapons, I prefer 45 APC :)
