Pitbull discussion started in The Awesome, Cool and Random Pic. Thread.

It's all good man, I get passionate about the subject because my personal experiences with my dogs.

It's crazy how different peoples views are. Honest to God if I'm walking thor down the street and come up on some young black dudes they will haul ass to the other side of the street, 100% every single time. But then every single time I pass some older white lady they 100% of the time have to stop and pet him.

Peoples experiences make them who they are I guess.

Y'know, I just remembered some experiences...
When I was in my early 20's. I had a job in utility work that had me in a lot of back yards in Miami, FL. People weren't home so I hopped a lot of backyard fences. I can't tell you how many times a pitbull came charging at me. I may have wet myself a couple times. I remember thinking "WTF there so many F-ing pitbulls here!"

Those dogs were just doing their job, I'm not mad. Maybe I do have some subconscious bias though.

You hop in my backyard and thor's out their he's gonna come charging at you, 70lbs and ears pinned back, and if you act like you belong their and greet him he's most likely gonna jump on you, check you out and then go get one of his toys so y'all can play tug of war.

But if you were to take off running he'd probably be just as happy to chase you with every intention of hanging by the meat of your ass.

Apparently, you give a ****, lol. Anyway, I'll I'm saying is that the truth is probably in the middle somewhere. I don't think they're as bad as some people think and they're probably not as bad as the data shows when you consider other factors.

Different dog breeds have different temperaments. That is definitely a thing. Labradors have a strong play drive and strong desire to please. Teaching them to fetch is easy. Yes, it' takes a good owner, but they have a natural advantage. Sure, there's exceptions but it's widely known that labs are good at fetching.

Pits have a strong prey drive, are high strung, and are over protective. Sure, that can all be managed by a good owner. They have a natural predisposition to have a problem with though. The "people" problem is that people shouldn't adopt any dog without knowing what they're getting into, especially a pit.
"Overprotective"? Nah. They are loyal and fun beasts. You have to **** up as an owner or adopt a dog that is already ****ed up to have bad results. There are a few that are selected to be bred for their animal aggression, in which case the owner would need to associate them with other dogs at a young age to acclimate them.

That strong "play" drive you mention in labs is prey drive. Whether you're looking for a dog to do personal protection work or retrieve a duck, the first thing you do is throw a Ball and see what they do.

As for this statement, "Pits have a strong prey drive, are high strung, and are over protective.", strong prey drive is true, high strung and over protective is BS.

I was sick 4 days this week LillyBelle has been beside me the whole time. She goes out to do her business then right back beside me.
Aww man, sorry to hear you were sick. Hope you’re feeling a lot better now. My little Dixie is the same way, Finlay was too. If I get sick Dixie won’t leave my side except to go do her business either. When I broke my leg in ‘15 and had surgery, Finlay stayed right by side while I was laid up for 2 & 1/2 months. Poor guy, my wife had to coax him away from me with a treat to get him to go out to pee & poop. Soon as he got done he came straight back to me, he was such a comfort to have with me when I was feeling so bad. When he died last year I was miserable and kinda hard to get along with until we got Dixie 3 months later. Life is just so much better with a dog around, it’s like having a little kid with fur & four legs that’s fast as greased lightening. Lol!
